Hiking at Pajarito Mountain
Pajarito Mountain has some great hiking trails, with stunning views from many parts of the mountain - south over Bandelier and the canyons on the eastern slopes of the Jemez Mountains to Sandia Crest, west over the Valle Grande towards Redondo, north to Caballo and Chicoma, and east to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The trails are usually snow free from mid-May onwards.
You can also access the Santa Fe National Forest trails to Cañada Bonita and across to Guaje Canyon. Hopefully, in the not too distant future, there will be hiking access directly into the Valles Caldera National Preserve.
Pajarito Mountain and the vicinity is home to large numbers of animals, such as elk, deer, bear and mountain lions, together with lots of little critters. In spring and summer the wildflowers are generally spectacular.
Check out the zoomable Google topo map or the bike trails map to get a view of the trails.
Either a Pajarito Mountain season pass or the new summer lift-served biking season pass lets you ride the lifts on any of the summer operation days, or a day ticket (hiking) is $10.
Pajarito Mountain Cafe is open weekdays during the summer (starting May 5th), 11 am - 2 pm, and also all day on Bike and Hike lift days and for other events.
